What is an custom email id or domain email id:

A custom email ID, also known as a domain email, is an email address that uses your own domain name (e.g. contact@techfin2k.com) instead of a generic provider like Gmail or Yahoo. This not only looks more professional but also helps reinforce your brand identity and build trust with clients and customers. It’s an essential tool for businesses, freelancers, and anyone looking to create a polished online presence.

The list of free custom domain email id providers:

• Zoho Mail
• Yandex Mail
• Mail.com
• ImprovMX
• ProtonMail (Limited Features)

In my Journey to create a free custom email ID with my domain, I searched intensively across the internet and tested various methods. What I found is that most options are either complex, involving tasks like adding or changing DNS records, or they come with the catch of being free for only a limited time. Despite the numerous guides and tools available, the process can often feel overwhelming, especially if you’re not tech-savvy.

Just when I was about to give up on the free custom email dream, I stumbled upon ImprovMX.com. Now, ImprovMX isn’t a full-fledged email service provider with all the bells and whistles. But what it lacks in features, it makes up for in sheer ease of use. ImprovMX is an email forwarding service, which means your emails won’t actually be stored with them. Instead, they’ll be forwarded to an existing email address you already have. But hey, that’s enough to ditch the unprofessional free Gmail address and create a professional custom domain email like contact@techfin2k.com

The best part is ImprovMX’s free plan allows you to create up to 25 different custom email addresses for your domain name! That’s more than enough for most personal or small business needs. Sure, you might not get the advanced spam filtering or massive storage space of a paid service, but for basic functionality and a professional-looking email address, ImprovMX is a fantastic option

Step by step guide to create free email id with custom domain name:

To set up your custom email, start by registering with ImprovMX.com (You can click on the word and register). Once registered, enter your domain name and the email ID where you want to receive emails sent to your custom domain. Click on “Create New Aliases.”

Next, you’ll be asked for some basic information, such as your name, country, occupation, and how you found out about the site. Fill in these details and save your information. You’ll then receive an email to activate your Improvmx account. Click the link in the email to activate your account.

Now, you can create your desired email addresses, such as contact@techfin2k.com, info@techfin2k.com, and support@techfin2k.com. Customize these based on your needs. You can create up to 25 desired free email ids with your custom domain. If you want more features you can go for paid version. You can check the latest prices and features with link https://improvmx.com/pricing/

After creating your email IDs, you’ll need to validate your account. As mentioned earlier, fill out the basic details and agree to the terms and conditions.

To activate the email forwarding service, you need to set up MX records and a TXT record in your domain name server, depending on your registrar. For example, I registered my domain with Amazon Registrar, so I’ll log in to my Amazon account, go to DNS settings, and create new records. The details are shown in the figures for easy understanding.

1. MX Records:
   • Select “Simple Routing” and define a simple record. Leave the subdomain box blank.
   • Choose “MX (Mail Exchange)” as the record type.
   • Enter the IP details provided by Improvmx.com:
     • For the first IP, enter “10” followed by a space, then paste the first IP. ( The first IP is mx1.imorovmx.com)
     • For the second IP, enter “20” followed by a space, then paste the second IP. (The second IP is mx2.improvmx.com)
   • Set the TTL (Time to Live) to 300 seconds, then click “Create Record.”
   • It may take some time (up to 24 hours) for the records to propagate, so be patient.
2. TXT Record:
   • Again, create a simple record. Leave the subdomain blank.
   • Select “TXT” as the record type and paste the recommended value from Improvmx.com. ( The TXT value is “v=spf1 include:spf.improvmx.com ~all”)
   • Set the TTL to 300 seconds, then click “Create Record.”

Once the MX and TXT records are created, you can check the status of your email forwarding by clicking on the “Check Status” button on Improvmx.com. If everything is set up correctly, the status should turn green, indicating that email forwarding is active.

Finally, test your setup by sending an email to your new custom address (e.g., contact@techfin2k.com). If everything is configured correctly, the email will be forwarded to your chosen email ID.

With your custom email address now up and running, you’re ready to present a more professional image to your clients and partners. Setting up email forwarding through ImprovMX.com may have required a bit of effort, but the result is a polished, branded email experience that aligns perfectly with your domain.
